I WANT TO BE DEODORANT-FREE

For nearly two decades, using deodorants makes me feel secure whenever I am outside. I have accustomed to using a deodorant since high school, mostly R***** roll on. I never changed the brand, I love it. I will definitely NOT going out without applying it. I ONLY use it when I am about to go out. Yes, I don’t use it at home. I am aware that using a commercial deodorant too much is harmful for it contains chemicals like aluminium salts and zirconium. These two chemicals are known to be hazardous if used for a long term.

Lately, I am very cautious about my body odour, especially my underarms. I am NOT talking about going outdoor, because I will always use a deodorant to avoid smelly underarms. I am now talking about whenever I am not using any deodorant while staying at home for the whole day. Well, my house (in Malaysia) is not entirely air-conditioned, except for bedrooms. So the normal room temperature in the house is what we usually feel outside…lol. Hot and sticky. It is absolutely NOT WARM anymore. This condition makes my armpits sweat even more and cause bad smell, to my nose at least. I am not happy with this.

I started to realise some pit odour as I spend most of my time at home because I am on my study leave. I don’t go out much. Little did I know, I have been completely deodorant-free for more than two months now. As a result of deodorant-free, my underarms stink whenever they sweat. FYI, they sweat all the time in this hot weather. Oh dear my dear!!!

I read a blog article at the guardian.com saying that using deodorants will kill all bacteria in underarms area, including the good ones. The worse thing is, according to a study, our underarms will get more bacteria after we stop using the deodorants because the bacteria underneath which have been long trapped in the skin will go out and multiply. OH MY GOD! I think, this is why the underarms get smelly when we don’t use deodorants anymore. In other words, for some cases like mine, the underarms odour gets worse after we stop using deodorants. I am sure this is what is happening to me right now. I’ve never had the experience of NOT USING deodorants for so long before until this time. I never stopped using anti-perspirants or deodorants since high school. That long……wow! Now I know. I CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT A DEODORANT….or actually, can I?

So I have a new wish! From this moment, I don’t want to use deodorants anymore! Will this be possible?

So I googled. As you all know, I have started using Mary Kay skincare products lately. So I searched if Mary Kay has anything like a safe and hazardous chemical-free deodorant or something like that. Yes, I FOUND IT!!!! A lot of people have been talking about Deo Body Spritzer (147ml, RM138, Lotus and Bamboo smell). So my sister ordered it today from a beauty consultant! I can’t wait to use it!!!! I hope it can solve my problem.

I will write a review soon, after I get the item and use it for about a week or so. Stay tuned!

My nieces' Paradise Playground and Houseplay Set

I have three nieces.

This is their indoor playground and playhouse

at their grandparents' house (my parents' house).

I set this indoor playground so they can always come and play

right under our eyes.

They spend almost all day here whenever they come.

This space is at the end of the house, near the back door.

So, the living room, common room and family room

which are located at the front part of the house

will always remain untouched.

Most of the playhouse toys were bought in the UK

as these things are very cheap there.

I got the whole baby alive set including stroller, bouncer,

car seat, dining seat and many more.

The ironing board, iron, electric kettle,

vacuum cleaner are all pre-loved and were bought

at a charity shop near my house there.

Very cheap!

I bought loads of Barbie dolls too.

Most of them only cost me about GBP1.00 to GBP3.00 each.

They are pre-loved/used items, but definitely original

and still in good condition.

Product Review: Small Kid Slide

I purchased this mini slide last February from a lovely online seller, ‘bambinotoysstore’ on Instagram. I got it at a special price for only RM110 plus RM12 for postage. I cleared the payment on 19/2/2017 (10.41 p.m.) and the item was posted to me on the next day (20/2/2017) with a tracking number via KTMD courier. I received the item on 22/2/2017 (around 3.00 p.m.) at my doorstep, together with another playground equipment I purchased (see-saw). Fast delivery!

In my opinion, this small slide was very easy to fix. There was a manual sheet to assemble this product in the box, but I hardly used it. No need, too easy. It was ready in a blink of eye. This slide has added a great choice of playground equipment to my three nieces’ indoor playground. It can be folded and stored when not in use. However, this slide is pretty impressive in height. I mean, if you are talking about a little kid scope. So, technically, it is going to be a very swift ride and harsh landing…for a little kid. Make sure you put something soft underneath as an absorbance such as a pillow, comforter, duvet, play mat and so on. Well, my two one-year-old nieces are okay riding this slide without anything underneath, sometimes. They are wearing diapers!! So those diapers are their natural absorbance for fast landing.

They are very happy indeed. This is their world! This playground has made them come often here, their grandparents’ house. Their parents do not have to take them to outdoor playground anymore which requires extra caution of course.

Product Review: 2in1 Kid Slider

I purchased this kid slide last February from a lovely seller, alfatehshoppe_sumaiyah on instagram, for only RM275 including postage. I cleared the payment on 19/2/2017 (8.00 p.m.) and the item was posted to me on the next day (20/2/2017) with a tracking number via NationWide Express. Surprisingly, I received the item on 21/2/2017 (around 4.30 p.m.) at my doorstep. What a fast delivery!

This slide is not the famous 3in1 slide with a little swing. That one is normally priced RM375. The slide version I purchased is the one WITHOUT that swing hence the lower price. There’s only a slide and an attached basketball net.

It came in this big box.

There were many slide parts in the box.

Unfortunately there was no manual or instruction booklet provided in the box. So I merely referred to the pictures of the same item online.

It is actually very easy to assemble the parts. I did it myself so I think that’s enough to describe how easy it must be.

This is the highest point, suitable for my eldest niece who is nearly 5 years old. It can be adjusted anytime. Simply unscrew the orange ‘stuff’ as you can see in the above picture.

This is the indoor playground I set for my three lovely nieces. They have been playing well so far. It has been a few months and everything is still sturdy and strong.

Product Review: IKEA Bed frame LEIRVIK

This is my new IKEA bed, got it from a personal shopper for RM600. I had been dreaming to get this bed ever since I was in Birmingham, UK. I used a lot of IKEA items there in my bedroom. But this one is like a dream came true. I, now, have this bed in my bedroom at my parents’ house. People have been using this since ages but I just got mine…hahaha. Poor me!

In my opinion, this IKEA LEIRVIK bed frame is stronger than it looks. I was surprised that it is quite heavy! I thought it would be like the cheap steel bed frame which I used to have in my school days. I have been using this bed for a month now and all I can say is, I am very satisfied with my purchase. It is very tall in height. So my footstool (which I bought it for GBP3.00 at a carboot sale in Birmingham last year) now meets its purpose. The footstool is the green one in the picture. This bed frame is also simple in design, which makes my bed traditionally sweet and girlish.

For many many years, I had been using the normal bed which many people use. It doesn’t suit my bedroom at all, as my mother said. Yes, of course. I really love vintage and contemporary shabby chic. So this new bed has made sense to my life! (I do exaggerate a lot, always.)

Now we’re back to the topic of ‘IKEA personal shoppers’. So the price I got is indeed more expensive than the one you might buy yourself at IKEA Damansara which is now trending at RM349 on IKEA Malaysia online catalogue. It was RM549 a few years ago though. In the UK, it is now trending at GBP79.00.

Although I bought the bed frame for RM600, this amount is inclusive. For someone who lives far from Kuala Lumpur (IKEA Malaysia is located in Damansara, which is pretty much known as in Kuala Lumpur by the local people). So the seller delivered the item to my place and even assembled it in my bedroom. So I think the price is reasonable enough for someone who lives very far from IKEA. Plus, I did not own a lorry to go to IKEA which is hundreds of miles from my place. I did not to pay for the gas which would cost me hundreds of course. I did not have to carry the box and load it into a trolley. I did not have to queue at IKEA cashier to pay for this huge item. I did not have to assemble it myself which would be troublesome for people who are not familiar with handling this kind of stuff, especially girls.

There are many personal shoppers doing this service lately. The number is increasing, made it easy for IKEA lovers from all over Malaysia to purchase IKEA products. You can buy anything! Anything at all from the IKEA catalogue. All you have to do is to compare the prices and services they offer. There are personal shoppers who only get the IKEA items for you, deliver them at a specific place (their place/office) and you have to go there to collect your items yourself. This means, soon, you have to assemble these items (especially furniture) yourself at home. Well, that is what IKEA all about. To those who doesn’t have time or the ability to construct things (haha), you have to choose personal shoppers who offer delivery service to your doorstep, or even assemble the items (in case of furniture) for you. Although the prices they offer might be slightly more expensive, it is the opportunity cost that counts.

Modern vintage Curtain

It’s a ‘Polka dots and patchwork design’ two-piece-curtain.

This is the new curtain I made to suit my bedroom. Well, technically, my mother also helped me with the sewing so we could save time. I used my mini sewing machine and she used her traditional sewing machine.

Although the end result is definitely not the work of arts, it serves my bedroom really well. As a curtain. The fabric was bought at GEDUNG SERI UTAMA SDN. BHD. for RM11.90 per metre. It is 100% English cotton, so the salesgirl said.

Anyway, I like it!
