Marimo World #1: Marimo

19 /9/ 2012
I am falling in love!
Someone introduced me to Marimo this morning....
I wish I could have a Marimo by my side too....

Marimo is a green-ball like aquatic plant, from Japan. It grows very slowly, approximately 0.5-1cm per year. Some say, it takes 2 years or more for a Marimo to become as big as 10 cent coin. Many believe that it brings luck, prosperity and love. However, I fancy Marimo because it shows patience and love of whoever owns it. Easy to take care of, Marimo becomes a 'plant-pet' or gift to someone special. It is sold based on its size. [RM15.00=size of 10 cent coin and RM60.00=bigger than size of 50 cent coin]

It is, indeed, one of the amazing GOD's creations which has benefits to the mankind. Marimo stabilizes the biology of an aquarium. The water will be always clean with Marimos in the aquarium, although there are fish inside. It reduces the growth of algae because marimo absorbs the same nutrients as algae does. So people believe that the marimo always wins.

I wish I could have it someday. More info, click here.

Happy Malaysia Day

I am proud to be a Malaysian

Bahasa Jiwa Bangsa

Before this, I always took Bahasa Melayu for granted. I never realized how complicated my national language is….until I had an interview this morning, UiTM scholarship to be an English lecturer. Of course, it was supposed to be conducted fully in English. However, the second session suddenly was conducted in Bahasa Melayu.

My Bahasa Melayu session was a disaster. I couldn’t answer well and spent a great time thinking too much on Bahasa Melayu (baku) words that I left years ago.

“POYO! NGADA-NGADA! X SEDAR DIRI! MELAYU XRETI CAKAP MELAYU TIPULAH…” I cursed myself.

Yes, we can speak KL (informal Bahasa Melayu) fluently….but NOT Bahasa Melayu baku (official Bahasa Melayu, the language that is used by pengacara TV- host). Believe me…

I am surprised to know that I CANNOT speak Bahasa Melayu fluently like pembaca berita Buletin Utama TV3 (TV broadcaster)….haha. They are awesome! Indeed! Now I respect them! Seriously!

I’m a fan of Tan Sri Ramlee’s movies. I remembered ‘Bahasa Jiwa Bangsa’ caption was mentioned in Seniman Bujang Lapok movie decades ago. Indeed, Bahasa is jiwa bangsa (A language is the soul of a nation)! Language shows who we are, it presents how much Malay we are….. A Malaysian, especially Malay, should be ashamed if he or she cannot speak official Bahasa Melayu fluently.

We have achieved independence for 55 years already, but we are still lack of nationality in our heart. Nationality is not ONLY represented by how we dress, how we speak or how we behave, BUT how much effort we put to sustain the name of a true MALAYSIAN.

Let’s sing “Saya Anak Malaysia” song…hehe. Bye.

1957 bulan 8 kita merdeka,
Setelah dijajah oleh orang Inggeris,
Kamikaze dan Portugis.

Saya Anak Merdeka x 4

Sedikit masa harus diluangkan,
Fikirkan sebentar apa yang dijuangkan,
Adakah merdeka sekadar laungan,
Merdeka semuanya keluar gaungan,
Merdeka lebih dari tiga jeritan,
Merdeka bebas dari kesempitan,
Pemikiran, otak, akal, minda,
Mungkin tiba masa definisinya dipinda.

Hujan emas di negeri orang,
Hujan batu di negeri kita,
Walaupun cantik negeri orang,
Tentunya Malaysia cantik lagi!

Dari Perlis ke Kota Kinabalu
Rakyat bersatu dan maju,
Bumi bertuah hasil melimpah,
Siapa rajin hidup mewah.

Saya Anak Merdeka x 4

Melayu, Cina, Iban, India,
Kadazan Portugis pun ada,
Semua kaya dengan budaya,
Di bawah kibaran satu bendera.

Saya Anak Merdeka x 2
Saya Anak Malaysia x 4

Doodle for the sweet couple...

Sorry that I couldn't attend the wedding ceremony for I have 3-day-workshop in Shah Alam at the moment. This doodle was made to show my apology as I promised you two weeks ago.... My dear cousin, hope you like it ya...

I wish you both happiness more than ever!

Hope to meet you soon...

It's March already!

Time always flies fast.... With a blink of my two eyes, it happens to be in March already. It seems only yesterday we celebrated a very blessed new year, 2012. Of course, everyone has set a few dreams to achieve this year.... But have you achieved any? Even one?

Never mind, let us set our new dream in the very beginning of every new month. Sounds good... This is the list of what I want to do...

1) Completing my Chapter 1 (Research Proposal) - Oh, a lot more to work on....it keeps changing.

2) Watching "MIRROR MIRROR" - in cinema starting 16 March

It is adapted from a novel....but Mirror Mirror The Movie is more enjoyable...it is quite comical, I guess. The trailer shows.

3) Watching "Snow White and The Huntsman"

I bet this movie is somehow as terrifying as Snow White A Tale of Terror many years ago.
A lot of blood and tears....

So, what about you? What do you want to accomplish in March? Good Luck anyway....

Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory

I had been dreaming to watch this classic movie since months ago. Then last week I bought it for RM39.90 at Speedy. Well, what I can say is....the movie is not that satisfying. I expected it to be very much like "The Wizard of Oz" movie (1939)....which is extremely colourful and so alive. But, it is not.

Of course, I can't compare to the modern version, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory The Movie (The latest version - Johny Depp), which is more alive and colourful. Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory The Movie is more sincere and honest in displaying dreams and hearts desires of a kid because the plots of the movie are more logical and real. However, it does not stress on Charlie that much.

In a nutshell, the novel seems more alive than the movie (Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory). It's more than enough to watch Charlie and The Chocolate Factory The Movie (The latest version - Johny Depp) after reading the book....okay?!

Dream to watch: MATILDA

P/S: I've downloaded MATILDA The Movie (1996) but I don't have spare time to watch it yet...huhu.
Maybe this weekend....I will...I hope.

It is adapted from a fantasy genre novel MATILDA by Roald Dahl (1988)

MATILDA Synopsis from Wikipedia:

"The parents of the five-year-old Matilda Wormwood have no interest in their daughter, but if they did, they would have discovered that she is incredibly gifted. Matilda, who lived in an English village near Aylesbury, taught herself to read at three years old, though the only actual books in the house were a cookbook and magazines. When she asks for a real book for herself, her father rudely turns her down and tells her to watch television instead. In spite of this, Matilda looks up the address of the local library, where she finishes all the children's books within a short time, thus leaving her to read adult novels, which she really enjoys. The librarian gives Matilda her own library card, and she is able to borrow books to read at home.

Mr. Wormwood sells used cars for a living, and tells Matilda and her brother Michael about how he makes a handsome profit by cheating customers out of their money in ingenious ways (such as putting sawdust in the transmission, rolling back the mileage on the odometer with an electric drill, and gluing back on bumpers that have fallen off). Matilda accuses him of being a crook though he shrugs it off and insults her. Matilda resolves to teach her parents a lesson every time they do something wrong, carrying out a variety of pranks.

Matilda's father sells a car to Miss Agatha Trunchbull, headmistress of Crunchem Hall Primary School. He arranges with her to have Matilda attend the school where she impresses her teacher Miss Jennifer "Jenny" Honey with her amazing intellectual capacity and mathematical ability. Miss Honey appeals to Miss Trunchbull to have Matilda moved up into an advanced class, but the child-hating headmistress refuses. Miss Honey also tries, in vain, to reason with Mr and Mrs. Wormwood, but she is not welcomed, and both parents make it clear that they are not interested either in Matilda or the value of education and learning. Matilda quickly learns of the Trunchbull's capacity for punishing children, as she carries out cruelties for minor reasons. When Matilda's friend Lavender places a newt in the Trunchbull's glass of water, Matilda is blamed and the tyrant refuses to listen to her. Incensed by the injustice, Matilda soon discovers she has psychokinetic powers, as she focuses on the glass with her eyes, and surprises everyone by tipping it over right onto Miss Trunchbull.

Befriended by Miss Honey, Matilda later proves to her that she made the glass move. Miss Honey confides in Matilda that Miss Trunchbull is actually her aunt, who took over her father's home and abused her after her father, Magnus, supposedly killed himself. Miss Honey was able to escape, though is still as dominated by the Trunchbull's tyranny as the children at school are. Matilda intends to resolve this by working on her new found powers. Matilda "haunts" Miss Trunchbull's classroom as Magnus' ghost, focusing her eyes on the chalk, and writes a threatening message for the Trunchbull on the blackboard that tells her to give Miss Honey back her home and money and leave for good. A terrified Trunchbull does so, never to be seen by anyone again. Matilda visits Miss Honey in her new home often, but returns to her parents one afternoon to find them packing everything they have into the car, as the police have apparently discovered some of Mr. Wormwood's covert illegal activity and now the whole family is moving to Spain to escape the punishment. Miss Honey appears with Matilda and confronts the Wormwoods. Matilda begs her parents to let her stay with Miss Honey, which they do so without a second glance back at her (although her brother waves goodbye).

It is clear that Matilda will have a better life with Miss Honey. She eventually discovers that she cannot use her powers anymore and Miss Honey suggests that she no longer has the mental resources to move objects with her mind, since all of her mental energy is focused on schoolwork."

A Welcoming Guest Doodle

Presenting doodles or caricatures on guest book tables has now become a trend in wedding ceremonies, either at homes, hotels or halls.

As one of the decoration on the table, this is made for a buddy of mine, for her wedding day.
It will be framed and put on the 'guest book' table.
It is to welcome the guests while they are signing the guest book.

For her wedding, this is my proposed design for the guest table....

Below are other creative ways, but simple to decorate your guest book table...
